Last night, with much of Hollywood in attendance, President Obama stole the spotlight, topping Jay Leno with a range of jokes poking fun at everything from his gray hair, to recent Republican turned Independent Charlie Crist. Here were a few of his highlights:
Last weekend marked the kick off for Passport DC–a series of events that gives visitors and District residents a chance to celebrate and sample international cultures. In 1970, environmentalists recognized the first Earth Day. Four decades later, thousands converged on the National Mall (along with billions in countries around the globe) to observe Earth Day via the Climate Change Rally. Clouds intermittingly threatened to put a damper on the day but, fortunately, the elements were kind.
Last Saturday, the ballroom at the Ritz Carlton Tyson’s Corner was filled with the bustle of hundreds people—mostly women—shopping for everything from the latest fashion trends to life insurance and gourmet delectable’s. This week, April 18th-24th, is National Volunteer Week. The observance was established in 1974 under the executive order of President Richard Nixon. Recently, President Obama made a proclamation in honor of National Volunteer Week. According to a report by David Goodhue of AHN News, Obama said:
The Haute Look of the Week was found recently on the red carpet at the WHW Rocks Season Finale and Lung Cancer Awareness Event. International vocalist Sylver Logan Sharp was among distinguished guests that dotted the red carpet at THEARC Theater.
Consumers are very interested in organic foods and organic cosmetics. But organic cosmetics aren’t always what the seem. Unless they have the USDA Organic seal on them, the U.S. government has not certified that the products are organic. Many consumer groups are unhappy about this and are urging the USDA to get involved and investigate many of the fraudulent claims in the industry.
Earlier this week I came across a blog on CNN which included an interview with the co-chair of the Socialist Party, Billy Wharton. The most outrageous claim by Wharton was probably in response to the idea that Barack Obama is a socialist.
