5 Tips To Conserve Energy At Home

by April Watts

1.) Keep the frige stocked. FACT: It takes more energy to cool an empty refrigerator than one that is full.

2.) Close the door. Isolating empty rooms and shutting off parts of the house that aren’t being used (i.e. areas of the basement) reduces the amount of space that needs to be heated or cooled and will result in a lower energy bill.

3.) Turn off the lights. Although this solution may be simple and obvious, many people that complain about their energy bills do not turn off the lights when leaving a room.  Also, opening blinds and taking advantage of natural lighting during the day reduces the need to use electrical lighting.

4.) Swap out old appliances. Replace old appliances with energy-efficeint models.  The Energy Star Label assures that the product uses less energy and prevents pollution.

5.)  Install Low Flow Shower Heads. At $10 to $20 a piece, low flow shower heads are not only price friendly but they also provide exhilarating showers and reduce the amount of hot water used.
