What an honor it is to receive an honest reply to a question we may ask. Everyone lies at some point, even if it is about the smallest things, also known as ‘white lies.’ What we don’t realize is, even ‘white lies’ can hurt. What may be a small lie to us can be the difference of a life-changing decision on the part of someone else. But, what about the things we don’t say? Being dishonest does not always entail a lie being told. A person can also lie by omission, which means ‘not telling the whole truth.’ To deliberately leave out a part out of a ‘truth’ holds just as much weight as telling a lie. No one wants to be lied to, and nothing good ever comes from it. So next time you think of not telling someone the entire truth, ask yourself: What are the pros and cons of this conscious decision I am making? Am I willing to lose this person’s trust? Would I want this person to hurt me? If you’re human, the answers should be obvious ones. All I know is, I would rather be hurt with the truth than comforted with a lie.
