Will President Obama’s State of the Union Speech show he is up for the job

by Chris McDonald

This Tuesday, President Obama will address the nation in his State of the Union speech, and one thing is for certain:  All eyes will be on him, and what his message will be.  Based on early excerps being release, it looks as if Obama will  make job creation his number one priority.

In a video sent to his supporters this weekend, Obama said “An economy that was shrinking is now growing again. But across the country, millions are struggling every day — to find work, to pay their bills, to provide for their families. It is clear that the moment we now face demands a vision for how we as a people will win the future,”

After the midterm elections, the public spoke, and they are done with high unemployment and a lagging economy, and want results.  This will be the President’s biggest speech yet, because with it comes the decisive year of his term, one in which he must show he is capable of putting people back to work.

Should Job Creation Be The President's Number One Priority in 2011?

  • Yes, putting people back to work is the best way to help the economy grow (100%)
  • No, there are bigger issues with the country than unemployment (0%)

There is nothing bigger at the moment than jobs.  Democrats have proven uneffective at reducing unemployment since Obama has been in office.  The economy can’t grown if people do not have money to spend.  Creating jobs has to be the President’s priority going into a reelection year.  The public has questioned several of his domestic policy decisions, some, including the Stimulus Package, that did not help curb unemployment in the way it was intended.  Obama needs help, and he has begun to reach out to businesses again, in hopes to get everyone on the same page and move forward.

Getting Americans back to work is not a Democratic or Republican problem, it is simply a national problem.  American is simply not as competitive as we should be.  Over the past decade or so, businesses have shipped jobs overseas  to help line their own pockets, which is an issue that needs to be addressed.

I truly feel this is the President’s last chance to prove he is worthy of his job title, and deserves a shot at a second term.  All eyes will be on President Obama Tuesday night.  We know he can give a great speech, but the real question is: Can he get Americans back to work?

I vote yes too. People expect Obama to magically solve this country’s problems overnight. It’s goign to take two terms to even put a dent in this mess.
