On July 30, Carolyn Malachi released her third recording, a genre-blending EP entitled “Lions, Fires, and Squares.” This Sunday, August 8, she strips down her sound to share her music and thinking with ‘Afternoon Acoustics @ the BREAkFAST kLUB at Liv Night Club. Malachi will chat with audience members in an intimate setting and then, accompanied by guitar and violin, treat them to a few gems.
Malachi’s previous releases, “Revenge of the Smart Chicks” and “Revenge of the smart Chicks II: Ambitious Gods” garnered critical acclaim and caught the attention of music lovers worldwide, affording her the opportunity to perform in South Africa. Her sound infuses elements of jazz, hip-hop, R&B, and spoken word. Lyrically, she explores the politics of love, feminism, community, and resilience with an understated passion and uniqueness that is as stimulating to the mind as it is pleasing to the ear.
Opening for Malachi will be guitarist and songwriter Welton Logan. With lineage from Ben Ali of Ben’s Chili Bowl, he is no stranger to U Street, and his sound and content lend itself perfectly to an acoustic set.
