In the words of songwriter Fred Ebb, popularized by Frank Sinatra, “Start spreading the news”! The clubs voted on Tuesday, and for the first time in history, New York/New Jersey will host a Super Bowl. South Florida’s bid was eliminated in the first round of voting. But, it was not until the fourth round that New York/New Jersey beat out Tampa to host Super Bowl XLVII in 2014. When asked by an NFL Network reporter why the new Meadowlands Stadium has no roof, Jets owner Woody Johnson replied, “Outdoor football is football.” Super Bowl attendees will be given hand warmers and heated seat cushions. This is an historical moment as it marks the first time in NFL history a cold weather state has been selected to host the Super Bowl. Hopefully, this means DC will toss its hat in the ring in coming years.
