Last night, with much of Hollywood in attendance, President Obama stole the spotlight, topping Jay Leno with a range of jokes poking fun at everything from his gray hair, to recent Republican turned Independent Charlie Crist. Here were a few of his highlights:
“The Jonas Brothers are here! … Sasha and Malia are huge fans but boys don’t get any ideas. I have two words for you: Predator Drones. You’ll never see it coming.”
“There are a few things in life harder to find and more important to keep than love. Well, love and a birth certificate,”
“Odds are that the Salahis are here. There haven’t been people that were more unwelcome at a party since Charlie Crist,”
“All of our jokes tonight are brought to you by our friends at Goldman Sachs — they make money whether you laugh or not.”
With most of the mainstream media blasting the President on a daily basis (which is their job) Obama reminded them why he was elected in the first place. His ability with words can inspire us to think, as we all know, but inspiring gut busting laughs seemed to surprise people. Even Jay Leno was upstaged by the Commander In Chief, who had a few funny quips but was not applauded nearly as much.
My point with this blog: The President has the toughest job in the world, and while there are many people who disagree with his policies, he is human. It’s nice to see him control a room, as he should, with some of the most powerful people in the country hanging off his every word. Following politics daily can become grating, so seeing members of both parties in the same room, laughing at each other, is a breath of fresh air.
