“What’s in a name?” The answer to that question may have been “very little” for star-crossed lovers Romeo & Juliet but, in the case of a trendy DC neighborhood, the answer is “everything”. One stroll down 18th Street and it becomes abundantly clear that Adams Morgan is where cultures of the world come together. From food, to nightlife and curios, Adams Morgan is the most well integrated area in the Nation’s Capital. As so many District residents already know, its where EVERYBODY goes for a good time!
Even the moniker Adams Morgan reflects a mission of unification. The neighborhood was named in the 1950s by a citizen group that wanted urban renewal and to improve race relations. The group, comprised of people of various races, combined the names of the two neighborhood schools–Adams, the school for white students, and Morgan, the schoold for black students.
